Last weekend the knockout games produced shocking results with Mark Professionals forfeiting to USA Invaders, Roots FC eliminating Jasmine Ranger 5 – 4 and Mighty Blue Angels getting rid of Millennium from the tournament by pinning them 1-0.

The most shocking result so far is the elimination of LISCR by BYC on Saturday at the NPA Sports pitch. BYC convincingly eliminated the premiership boys 2 – 0 in front of a record crowd. Also on Saturday, NPA walloped Devereux 4-0 at the ATS and Mighty Barrolle narrowly defeated J. Conqueror 3 – 2 at Unification Town in Margibi County.

On Sunday, St. Joseph Warriors, LTC Satellites and Young Pro, all booked their tickets after overpowering, New Georgia Pirates, Adorence and Mighty Blue Diamonds respectively.

There were wins for Invincible Eleven and Gedi &Sons in the Liberia Football Association knockout competition Thursday.

Invincible Eleven scored a convincing 3-1 victory over Paynesville Young Controllers at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

Trokon Weeks scored a hat trick for the yellow boys in the 31st, 56th and 66th minutes of the match.

Amos Freeman scored PYC’s consolation goal in the 90th minute.

In the day’s second showdown, Gedi &Sons buried Zelor FC 2-1 in an entertaining encounter.

Patrick Wleh scored both goals for Gedi &Sons in the 37th and 47th minutes.

Thomas Togba scored for Zelor in the 87th minute of the match.

At the NPA field on Bushrod Island, Monrovoia Breweries advanced to the next stage of the competition after a win over Watanga FC.

The sides played to a 1-1 draw during regular time but Breweries won the resulting penalty kicks to go through.

The competition will continue Friday with knockout champions NPA Anchors engaging the side the defeated in the final Mighty Barrolle.

The game will be played at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

LFA defending premier league champions, Mighty Barrolle and defending knockout champions, the ‘Red Boys’ and NPA Anchors will today battle in what is expected to be the toughest knockout match so far since the competition began about a week ago.

Last week the defending knockout champs, NPA Anchors eliminated Devereux after an easy 4 – 0 thrashing at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium; while Mighty Barrolle slammed J. Conquerors in a tensioned match that zeroed in with a 3-2 on the Unification Town sports pitch in Margibi County.

Today’s game, which begins at 2:00p.m. is expected to be a crowd puller as the two teams are senior premier clubs. The two teams last met twice before the winner of the last Knockout competition was decided. The first match was cut off due to poor visibility resulting from the absence of electricity at the stadium.

The “Red Boys” were however defeated in post-match penalties after regular time ended goal less in a rescheduled final.

In the day’s last encounter at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, USA Invaders will knock boots with Roots FC in what is also expected to be a tough match.

Yesterday, Invincible Eleven (IE) continued their drive for the knockout title when they dashed out Paynesville Young Controllers (PYC) in a 3 – 1 convincing win. Gedi & Sons also enveloped Zelor 2 – 1 in an exciting encounter that took place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

The Liberia Football Association Knockout Competition has kicked off at several stadia in the country. The competition rolled off yesterday with matches taking place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on the United Nations Drive at the NPA Sports pitch on the Bushrod Island and the Unification Town Sports ground in Margibi County.

At the Antoinette Tubman Stadium yesterday in Monrovia, Gedi & Sons hit hard on Exodus 1 – 0 despite been down to 10 players, when player Kamara was red-carded for unfriendly behavior during the game.

Player Kamara was sent off in the 48th minute of the match after been red-carded; but that did not deter the premiere team. Gedi & Sons forwards became more aggressive and in the 55th minute came ‘magically’ score a goal that placed the two teams face to face. The goal came through a counter attack that landed the ball on the leg of skipper Joshua Morris; who had already proven his dribbling skills. He beautifully got a pass through two Exodus defenders and entered the 18-yard box placing a hot shot that landed at the back of the net.

Exodus made several attempts to redeem the goal but the apparentlyt experienced Gedi & Sons team denied the youngsters all their chances for success.

In other knockout matches played yesterday, Zelor whipped Black Stars 1 – 0 at the sports pitch of the National Port Authority on Bushrod Island; while Watanga dumped Karn United 3 – 1 in Unification Town, Margibi County.

The tournament continues tomorrow with Monrovia Club Breweries taking on Small Town at the NPA Sports pitch. In what is anticipated to be more exciting football matches, Invincible Eleven (IE) engages Diamond FC in Unification Town, Margibi County, while Premiership leaders LPRC Oilers will play host to Paynesville Young Controllers, (PYC) at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
